Practical guide
Podcast cover art principles and size requirements
Design podcast artwork that meets directory requirements and remains recognizable at small sizes.

Short answer
Start with a square high-resolution image, use a short readable title and strong contrast, keep essential elements away from edges, and test the cover at small thumbnail size.
Meet the technical requirements
Podcast directories validate artwork before they evaluate the design. Export a square RGB image in a supported format and check current platform limits at submission time.
- Work from a high-resolution square master
- Use RGB color
- Keep an editable source and a clean final export
Design for the smallest view
Most people first encounter cover art as a small tile. One focal point, high contrast, and fewer words usually survive reduction better than detailed illustrations or long subtitles.
- Preview around 55 pixels wide
- Avoid thin type and edge-aligned text
- Do not copy the visual identity of another show
Adapt instead of stretching
A square cover is not a YouTube banner or story graphic. Preserve the identity while recomposing elements for each aspect ratio and safe area.
- Keep a consistent palette and type system
- Reposition important content for each format
- Check artwork rights and likeness permissions
