Practical guide
Podcast transcription and editing workflow
How to create, correct, and reuse a podcast transcript without treating automated speech recognition as a final edit.

Short answer
Transcribe after the audio edit, correct the transcript against the recording, label speakers consistently, and use that approved text as the source for show notes, captions, and articles.
Prepare the audio first
Transcription accuracy usually improves when speech is clear and speakers are not competing with steady noise. Edit the episode structure before transcription so the text matches the published recording.
- Export clear speech at a stable level
- Remove only distracting steady noise
- Avoid aggressive processing that damages consonants
Correct the high-risk details
Names, numbers, URLs, brands, and technical terms are more damaging when wrong than ordinary punctuation. Review those items first, then check speaker changes and passages with crosstalk.
- Create a spelling list before transcription
- Listen to uncertain passages at reduced speed
- Do not infer words that are not audible
Publish useful text
A transcript can support accessibility and search when it is easy to navigate and genuinely represents the episode. Add headings or timestamps where helpful, but do not stuff unrelated keywords into the text.
- State whether the transcript was edited for clarity
- Link the transcript to the episode audio
- Use the corrected version for downstream assets
