What is Unique Listeners?
Unique Listeners is a metric that counts the number of distinct individuals (devices) that downloaded an episode, regardless of how many times they pressed play.
Why Unique Listeners Matters for Podcasters
This is the most accurate metric for audience size. If one superfan downloads an episode on their phone, then listens to half on their computer, and finishes it on their iPad, raw logs might show 3 'downloads.' However, the 'Unique Listeners' metric uses IP addresses and User Agent data to identify that this was likely the same person, counting them as 1 unique listener. When pitching to sponsors, 'Unique Listeners' (or 'Reach') is a more honest and valuable number than raw download hits.
