What is Editing?

Editing is the post-production process of cutting out mistakes, silences, and irrelevant content, as well as arranging segments to create a cohesive episode.

Why Editing Matters for Podcasters

Editing is where a good podcast becomes a great one. It involves more than just removing 'ums' and 'ahs'; it is about pacing and narrative flow. There are different levels of editing: 'Top and Tail' involves simply adding an intro and outro to the raw recording. 'Content Editing' involves rearranging sections of a conversation to make the guest sound smarter or the story more compelling. 'Cleanup' involves removing mouth clicks, long pauses, and background noise. While some purists prefer 'raw' conversations, most successful podcasts rely on tight editing to respect the listener's time. The goal is to make the conversation sound natural, but concise.
