What is Limiter?

A limiter is a type of compressor that acts as a safety ceiling for volume. It prevents the audio from ever exceeding a specific level, ensuring no clipping occurs.

Why Limiter Matters for Podcasters

Think of a limiter as a brick wall for audio volume. While a standard compressor gently lowers the volume when it gets loud, a limiter says, 'You shall not pass.' It is typically the very last plugin used in the mastering chain. Podcasters set a limiter ceiling (usually around -1.0 dB or -2.0 dB) to ensure that no matter how loud they laugh or scream, the final exported file will never hit 0dB and distort (clip). It allows you to make the overall volume of the podcast loud and competitive without risking digital distortion.
