What is Season / Serialized?

A serialized podcast tells a single story across multiple episodes (a season), requiring listeners to start at the beginning. Episodic podcasts can be listened to in any order.

Why Season / Serialized Matters for Podcasters

Podcasts generally fall into two formats: **Episodic** (stand-alone interviews or chat shows) and **Serialized** (a continuous story, like 'Serial'). Serialized shows are organized into 'Seasons.' This format is great for binge-listening and building deep engagement, but it makes it harder for new listeners to jump in mid-stream. Apple Podcasts allows you to tag your show as 'Serial' or 'Episodic.' If you choose Serial, the app will display the oldest episode first (Episode 1) so the listener starts at the beginning. If Episodic, it displays the newest episode first.
